Regulator Issues New Targets For Network Rail

Network Rail must make savings of £2 billion in the next five years while improving punctuality on all of its services, the Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) has said.

The ORR added that cost cutting must not come at the expense of safety, and that nine out of ten trains must run on time by 2019.

Network Rail is in charge of the UK's rail infrastructure.

The new targets from ORR follow a report last week, which said the rail operator had missed all of its targets in England and Wales in 2012.

The regulators recommendations where made after consulting Network Rails five-year business strategy.
