Cigarettes Prices 94% above EU Avergae

New figures from the EU statistical office, Eurostat, have shown that the UK has some of the highest alcohol and tobacco prices in European Union.

In Britain, alcohol prices are 43% above average and cigarettes are the third highest recorded, coming in at 94% above average.

General food and non-alcoholic beverages are reportedly 4% above the EU average, while milk, cheese and eggs are 7% higher.

Pensioners Benefit From 5% Increase In State Pension
The weekly full basic State Pension will rise by five per cent from £90.70 to £95.25 from today - almost an extra £5 a week. Around 12 million pensioners will benefit from this increase in their State Pension, the biggest percentage increase since 2001.

Average house prices rise above £200,000
The average asking price of a house in England and Wales has risen to over £200,000, a new survey has revealed. Property website Rightmove said that the asking price of properties increased by 2.7% last month, driven by increased demand from buyers and a shortage of sellers. It is the largest monthly rise for almost two years.

Western Britain sees biggest house price increases
Homeowners in western Britain have seen the biggest house price increases in the UK over the last decade, the Halifax has reported. Cornwall saw the biggest rise, with prices increasing by 268% from 1996 - an increase from £53,081 to £195,388. Anglesey was second, with a 252% rise in prices, followed by Ceredigion in Wales with a 244% rise.
