Inmates To Be Moved Closer To Home Before Release
New plans announced by the Ministry of Justice will see prisoners in England and Wales moved closer to where they live ahead of their release.
Around 70 so-called resettlement jails are planned, with a trial of the system due to begin in north-west England this year.
It is hoped the plan will work towards cutting re-offending, with Justice Secretary Chris Grayling saying it would help prisoners work towards "their rehabilitation".
It is understood that inmates with a sentence 12 months or less will serve it all in a resettlement jail, while those with longer terms will move with around 3 months left to serve.
