Channel 4 To Broadcast Murder Trial

Channel 4 are to broadcast a Scottish murder trial, in what is being described as a "rare insight" into the court system.

The documentary, filmed over six weeks at the High Court in Edinburgh, follows the retrial of Nat Fraser, who is charged with murdering his wife.

The High Court and all key witnesses in the trial had to grant permission to Channel 4 to film proceedings.

Nat Fraser is accused of murdering his wife, Arlene, in 1998.

It is understood that Mrs Fraser's body has never been recovered, there is no murder weapon, no crime scene and Mr Fraser has an alibi for the day of her disappearance.

Mr Fraser was convicted in 2003 of the murder and sentenced to 25 years in jail. However, in 2011 his case was ruled a miscarriage of justice by the Supreme Court and his conviction was quashed. A retrial was ordered.

The Murder Trial will be broadcast on Channel 4 at 9pm on Tuesday 9 July.
