Woman Dies During Charity Channel Swim

A woman from Barwell, Leicestershire, has died during a charity swim across the English Channel.

Susan Taylor, who was in her 30s, got into difficulty while in the water and despite receiving treatment in a support boat was pronounced dead in Boulogne on Sunday.

She had been doing the 21-mile endurance swim to raise money for Rainbows Hospice in Loughborough and Diabetes UK.

Ms Taylor was swimming under the guidance of the Channel Swimming Association, which officially authorises crossing attempts.

Little Britain Star Completes Second Charity Swim
Comedy actor and Little Britain star has completed a charity swim from Spain to Africa. David Walliams, who famously swam the Channel in 2006 for Sport Relief, joined Olympic rower James Cracknell to cross the 12-mile Strait of Gibralter. They completed the Sport Relief swim in four hours and 36 minutes.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) have launched and joint open water safety initiative, Swim Safe. Figures have revealed that one in five children have gotten into difficulty while swimming in open waters.

Met Officer Dies In Diving Accident
A Metropolitan Police officer has died while diving in the English Channel, according to emergency services. The 57-year-old officer was one of two men who were airlifted to Worthing hospital after getting into difficulties while on a diving expedition off the Sussex coast on Saturday afternoon.
