Govt Proposed 50% Tax Break For Fracking Firms

Tax on the incoming generated by shale gas could be reduced by 50%, in plans that would make the UK the "most generous" regime for shale gas in the world, the government said.

Found in underground shale rock formations, the government have proposed cutting the tax from 62% to 30%.

George Osbourne has been quoted as saying that shale gas production represents "huge potential" for the UK.

However, environmentalists have been strongly criticised the government, with Greenpeace saying that the disruption caused to communities effected by fracking – the technique used to extract the gas – would outweigh any gains.
