Rule Changes See School Rankings Shakeup

A change in the ranking system of schools in England has resulted in over 100 previously "outstanding" schools being downgraded.

The schools were reinspected following the changes to the rating system, which puts more emphasis on teaching.

Previously a school could be rated "outstanding" even when inspectors didn't thinking teaching and learning were of the highest standard.

Following the rule changes just 44 schools out of 155 that previously held the ranking, retained it.

From the remainder, 91 were rated "good" and 20 were told improvements were need, with two of this group being rated "inadequate", the lowest rating.
