Man Dies After Allergic Reaction To Horsefly Bite

A 48-year-old man has died after suffering anaphylactic shock when he was bitten by a horsefly.

It is understood that Andy Baxter collapsed while watching his 17-year-old daughter ride her horse.

He suffered an "incredibly rare" allergic reaction to the bite from a horsefly.

According to Allergy UK it is extremely rare for a person to suffer such an allergic reaction to a horsefly bite.

Man hospitalised by hamster bite
A man has been taken to hospital after suffering a severe allergic reaction from a hamster bite. The 50-year-old was bitten by the animal as he tried to retrieve it from under the floorboards of his home in Evesham in Worcestershire on Monday night. The man's seven-year-old daughter had accidentally let the hamster out of its cage.

Police And Food Standards Agency Investigate Death
Greater Manchester Police and the Food Standards Agency are conducting a joint investigation into the death of an 18-year-old woman in Manchester city centre. Police said the woman died in hospital on Monday after she collapsed on Withy Grove in Manchester at about 20:30 last Friday.

Minister Supports Allergy Treatment Campaign
Jo Swinson, MP for East Dunbartonshire, has pledged her support for a campaign to highlight the availability of emergency treatment in pharmacies. Ms Swinson almost died earlier this year after experiencing a life-threatening allergic reaction.
