Govt Consider Double Yellow Line 'Grace Period'
In a plan aiming to boost the high street, the government are considering allowing drivers to park for up to fifteen minutes on double yellow lines.
It is understood that the plan would allow drivers a fifteen minute "grace period" to park on the otherwise restricted sections of road.
The plan also includes provisions to allow cars to be left in parking bays for longer while avoiding a fine.
Some councils have been accused of using parking fines as a "cash cow", an accusation they have rejected.
Currently only vehicles making commercial deliveries and pick-ups, emergency services and blue badge holders are allowed to stop on double yellow lines.
