Report Due On NHS By 'No Harm' Expert

A new report of patient safety within the NHS in England is to be published today.

Ministers commissioned Prof Don Berwick, a leading expert of patient safety, to review systems within the NHS following the Stafford Hospital scandal.

A report into the neglect and abuse uncovered at Stafford Hospital concluded that the public had been "betrayed" by the NHS when corporate self-interest was put ahead of safety.

It is known that Prof Berwick takes a "no harm" approach, similar to that found within the airline industry, and his previous work has focused on systems that are open, honest and urge a willingness to learn from mistakes.
