Ofcom To Investigate TV Violence
The level of violence in television shows likely to be watched by children and under 18s is to be investigated by the broadcasting regulator.
It follows a ruling by Ofcom that Channel 4 broke broadcasting rules when it broadcast an episode of Hollyoaks that contained a violent train death pre-watershed.
The regulator said that no research has been carried out into violence on TV for more than 10 years.
The independent research will be published "as soon as possible" next year.
Court Of Appeal To Review Pedophiles Sentence For Leniency
The attorney general is to refer the case of a convicted pedophile to the Court of Appeal.
The decision was made over concerns of undue leniency regarding the case of Neil Wilson.
Wilson, 41, was sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended for two years earlier this year, but concerns were raised after it was revealed that Wilson's 13-year-old victim was branded as "predatory" and "sexually experienced" by a judge.
In turn, the judge admitting taking the comments under consideration when sentencing Wilson.
A statement from the attorney general's office said: "Having carefully reviewed this case, the attorney general, Dominic Grieve QC MP, has decided to refer the sentence of Neil Wilson to the court of appeal for review.
"The case will in due course be heard by three court of appeal judges who will decide whether or not the sentence is unduly lenient and whether they should increase it."
Briton And American Arrested In China
A British investigator has been arrested in China over allegations of trafficking personal data, Chinese officials have confirmed.
Briton Peter Humphrey was arrested along with his American wife, Yu Yingzeng, on August 16, according to state-run Xinhua news agency.
State-run media claim that the pair broke the law on at least 10 occasions.

King seeks leave to appeal child sex conviction
Broadcaster Jonathan King, who was jailed for seven years for sexually assaulting two boys during the 1980s, has made an application to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) to review his case. The CCRC will now consider whether the case should be processed through to the Court of Appeals.

Harris Sentence Will Not Be Referred Over Leniency
The Attorney General has ruled that the sentence handed down to Rolf Harris will not be referred to the Court of Appeal, despite some 150 complaints regarding its "leniency". Earlier this month Harris was sentenced to five years nine months for 12 charges of indecent assault on four girls.

Veteran US soul singer Wilson Pickett has died at the age of 64. The star, who was famous for hits such as 'In The Midnight Hour' and 'Mustang Sally', suffered a heart attack in Virginia. His management said that he had suffered from ill health for the past year.

Court case baby makes first visit home
Severely disabled Charlotte Wyatt has been allowed home from the hospital for the first time since she was born two years ago. Charlotte’s father, Darren Wyatt, collected her from St Mary’s hospital in Portsmouth today to take her home for a brief visit with her mother, Debbie. Two members of staff from the hospital supervised the visit.
