Ofgem Begin Shakeup Of Energy Industry
The gas and electricity industry regulator, Ofgem, has said suppliers must inform customers of the cheapest available deal on offer, alongside households being supplied with simplified tariffs, by March 2014.
In the first stage of industry reforms announced by Ofgem, energy suppliers will be restricted to offering no more than four tariffs for each type of fuel.
The reforms which are being rolled out aim to make the energy market more transparent and to simplify pricing for customers.
It is understood that the reforms being introduced have the backing of David Cameron, following a pledge made last year to have suppliers offer customers the best possible deal.

Pinewood Shepperton share offer promises £46m
The share launch by UK film studio complex Pinewood Shepperton on the London Stock Exchange today was expected to net £46.2 million, but the oversubscribed share offer promises to net the company much more. The studios, home to Harry Potter and James Bond film productions, announced today that the shares had been launched at 180 pence each.

Energy firms ordered to improve their billing
Energy suppliers must improve the way they bill their customers within a year or face regulatory action, industry regulator Ofgem has warned. Ofgem has ordered suppliers to stop ‘back-billing’ – failing to supply a bill and then charging customers the full amount at a later date - beyond two years. This would be reduced again to one year in 2007.

More needs to be done to tackle electricity theft, the energy regulator has said. Ofgem has said the theft of energy, a third of which they claim is being used to run cannabis farms, costs customers some £200m a year. The regulator has published a number of proposals, urging suppliers to detect and investigate problems, or face a fine.

Unions Urge Tanker Drivers To Reject Latest Offer
In the continuing dispute tanker drivers have been urged to reject the latest offer after the Unite union said the new proposals were unsatisfactory. Shop stewards voted "overwhelmingly" to reject the potential settlement in a meeting today and they will recommend that 2,000 drivers turn down the peace document in a consultative ballot.
