British Woman Shot Dead In Turkey
A British woman has been killed, and her son and mother have been left injured, following a shooting in Turkey.
According to Vanessa Altin, a journalist in Turkey, the family were shot while celebrating a birthday party at a villa in the small fishing village of Dalyan.
It is thought the gardener argued with the family prior to the party, and they reported him to Turkish police. He was detained, but returned to the villa on his release and opened fire with a pump-action shotgun.
The woman killed has been named locally as 56-year-old Catherine Anne Bury, from Swainby in North Yorkshire. Her son, Alex, is believed to be in his 20s, and her mother Celia Bury, is in her 80s. They were also shot and are now recovering in hospital.
Alex was reportedly shot in the leg, while his grandmother was shot in the back. His mother is said to have been shot four times after she tried to hide from the gunman. She died at the scene.
It is understood the gunman gave himself up after the shooting and is due in court.
In a statement released by the Foreign Office, it said: "We are aware of the death of a British national in Turkey on September 9.
"We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time."
"We can confirm the hospitalisation of two British nationals in Turkey on September 9."
