Man Admits Killing Birmingham Schoolgirl

A 23-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of a 16-year-old schoolgirl in Birmingham in March.

Christina Edkins was fatally stabbed on a bus in Birmingham city centre as she made her way to school on March 07.

Philip Simelane, of Walsall, has entered a guilty plea to a charge of murder at Birmingham Crown Court to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility.

It is understood that Simelane has undergone psychiatric assessment since his arrest in March.

Sentencing is due to take place at a later court date.

Ten Arrested In Drug Raids
Nine men and one woman have been arrested in a series of police raids across Birmingham, Solihull and Smethwick. Police carried out the raids early on Thursday morning making ten arrests on suspicion of conspiring to supply dangerous class A drugs like heroin and crack cocaine.
