Greenpeace Activists Charged With Piracy

Russian authorities have charged fourteen Greenpeace activists, which include at least four Britons, with piracy.

It follows the storming of a Greenpeace ship in the Artic by Russian authorities last month.

It is understood that the Russian had boarded the ship, arresting its 30 strong crew, after two activists had tried to access a Russian owned oil platform.

'Exercise As Good As Pills' Claims Study

A new study published by the British Medical Journal claims the for people with conditions such as heart disease, exercise can be just as good as pills.

The study looked at hundred of trials involving over 300,000 patients and assessed the merits of exercise and drugs in preventing death.

Physical activity rivalled some heart drugs and outperformed stroke medicine.

The findings suggest exercise should be added to prescriptions, say the researchers.

Experts stressed that patients should not ditch their drugs for exercise - rather, they should use both in tandem.

Tiger Cub Birth Captured On Camera

Zookeepers have used hidden cameras to capture the birth of a tiger cub at London Zoo.

The keepers kept the 105 day pregnancy a secret, but caught the 6 minute labour on camera on September 22.

Both tiger and cub are said to be doing well.

Brown's Stance Praised By Litvinenko Widow
The widow of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko has commended Prime Minister Gordon Brown for "standing firm" on his demand for the extradition of the main suspect in the assassination of the defector. Marina Litvinenko welcomed Mr Brown's continued "firm" calls for the extradition of Andrei Lugovoi, two years after Mr Litvinenko's poisoning.

Former Russian President Boris Yeltsin dies
Former Russian President Boris Yeltsin has died at the age of 76. The cause of death has not yet been released, although some reports have suggested that he suffered heart failure. Mr Yeltsin was known to have a history of heart trouble. Mr Yeltsin is known for helping lead Russia into democracy and a market economy.

Mystery surrounds former Russian Prime Minister's illness
A former Russian acting Prime Minister Yegor Gaidar is being treated in hospital following what may be some form of poisoning. Mr Gaidar, who was premiere for a time under the Boris Yeltsin regime, fell ill during a visit to Dublin last week and was treated at a Dublin hospital before being moved to Russia.

Russia pays tribute to British submarine rescue team
The Russian defence minister has paid tribute to the British Navy team, which helped to rescue seven Russian sailors trapped in a mini submarine. Sergei Ivanov contacted British defence secretary John Reid to pay tribute to the British crew. In a telephone conversation, Mr Ivanov said: "I send my deepest thanks and appreciation.
