Number Relying On Food Banks Triple

According to new figures produced by a trust running food banks across the UK, the number of people relying on the service has tripled in the last year.

The Trussell Trust, which runs 400 food banks, said that some 350,000 received supplies from them between April and September.

The government however said that more people were using food banks simply because more food banks existed.

Releasing the figures the trust has called for a public enquiry into why the number of people resorting to food banks has steadily increased.
