Ofgem Rule Scottish Power To Pay £8.5m Compensation To Customers

Energy industry regulator Ofgem has ordered Scottish Power to pay £8.5 million in compensation to its customers.

An investigation into Scottish Powers doorstep and telephone selling found the company had failed to "adequately train and monitor" staff, with customers being misled.

Some 140,000 customers on the government-led 'warm home discounts' will share in £7.5m in compensation, estimated to be around £50 per customer.

The remaining £1m will be put into a customer compensation fund for customers who believe they were mis-sold products.

It is understood that the errors took place between 2009 and 2012.

The company have apologised to their customers.
