Arrest After Two Girls Are Killed In Gosport

The school has described the two girls who were struck by a car and killed on Sunday morning as "independent and strong minded individuals".

Jasmine Allsopp, 14, and Olivia Lewry, 16, were run down by a green Honda Civic on Ann's Hill road in Hampshire.

According to Hampshire Police Jasmine died at the scene and Olivia died in hospital.

A statement from Brune Park Community School said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with their families at this dreadful time.

"They were both independent, strong-minded individuals who lived their lives to the full with confidence and a sense of humour and a sense of fun. We will miss them both immensely and their unique talents which they displayed."

A 20-year-old man from Gosport is being questioned on suspicion of murder.

Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Ian Tomlinson Unlawfully Killed, Finds Jury
An inquest jury has ruled that Ian Tomlinson was unlawfully killed at the G20 protests in London. Mr Tomlinson, 47, died after he was struck by a baton by Pc Simon Harwood on 1 April 2009 during the London protests. The jury determined the officer used "excessive and unreasonable" force on Mr Tomlinson who was not taking part in the protests.

'No disciplinary action' for Menezes police

Queen unveils National Police Memorial
