UK Population To Rise By 9.6m Over 25 Years
The UK population is projected to increase by 9.6 million over the next 25 years from an estimated 63.7 million in mid-2012 to 73.3 million in mid-2037, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The UK population is also projected to reach 70 million in 2027.
Projected natural increase (more births than deaths) accounts for 57% of the projected increase over the next 25 years.
Over the ten year period to mid-2022, the UK population is projected to increase by 4.3 million to 68.0 million.
The number of people aged 80 and over in the UK is projected to more than double to six million by mid-2037.

The increase is equivalent to an average annual rate of growth of 0.7% and the ONS says that if past trends continue, the population will continue to grow, reaching 71 million by 2031.

Crossrail Boost As BAA Agree £230m Funding
Crossrail took a significant step forward today thanks to the agreement of a £230 million funding package from BAA, Transport Minister Andrew Adonis and BAA's Strategy Director Mike Forster have announced. In return, Crossrail will guarantee a fast train service four times an hour for the majority of the day.
