BAE Shipyard Jobs To Be Phased Out Over Three Years

Dock workers in Portsmouth and Scotland have been told that their jobs will be phased out over the next three years.

UK shipyard workers for BAE Systems heard that 1,775 jobs will now be phased out rather than cut immediately.

It follows talks between BAE management and shop stewards representing the dock workers.

In Portsmouth 940 staff posts and 170 agency jobs are to be phased out and shipbuilding is to end.

A further 835 jobs will also be cut from BAE sites in Govan and Scotstoun, on the River Clyde in Glasgow, and Rosyth in Fife and at the firm's Filton office, near Bristol.

It is understood that the option of voluntary redundancies will be made available from Monday.
