Prisoners Stage Rooftop Protest At HMP Oakwood

A rooftop protest is being staged by six prisoners at the G4S run prison HMP Oakwood.

It is understood that six prisoners have gained access to the roof of the security-firm run prison, which is near Wolverhampton, as part of a protest similar to a demonstration stage last month.

The prison has been the focus of some criticism in recent months, with a report by the chief inspector of prisons saying drugs were easier to obtain than soap.

The Ministry of Justice are understood that have been told of the protest and G4S are said to have put contingency plans in place.

HMP Oakwood opened in April 2012 and houses some 1,600 inmates.
