Security Provider Appointed For 2014 Games

Selex EX, an Italian-owned electronics and IT firm, has been chosen to provide security measures for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The firm, which is part of the Finmeccanica industrial group, has been appointed Official Protective Perimeter Security Provider for the event.

It will provide a range of physical perimeter security measures to secure more than 20 Games venues, including the Athletes Village. The measures will include security fencing, CCTV and security lighting, as well as security management systems.

The design phase of the contract will commence immediately with all installations will be completed by early July 2014.

The firm, which has bases in Italy and the UK, has a worldwide workforce of almost 18,000; 2,000 of which are based within Scotland. Its Edinburgh operation has 120 Scottish suppliers alone.

Glasgow 2014's Chief Executive David Grevemberg said: "Glasgow 2014, along with Police Scotland and our Games Partners, is focused on delivering a safe and secure environment for all who will be part of the Games.

Commonwealth Games Ticket Sales Restarted Without Issue
Sales of tickets to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 are underway again after being shut down last week due to technical issues. Organisers of the games, Glasgow 2014, have said that sales started again this morning at 10am and "no problems" have been reported.

Work Begins On 2014 Games Venue
Construction work is set to begin on the Barry Buddon site in preparation for next year's Commonwealth Games, Glasgow 2014 has confirmed. The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and the Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee are working together to ensure that Barry Buddon in Carnoustie will host Shooting at the Games.

Commonwealth Games Officially Open In Glasgow
40,000 people gathered on Wednesday night to attend the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2014 in Glasgow. The Queen officially opened the games at Celtic Park. Comedian Karen Dunbar and actor John Barrowman kicked off the ceremony.
