Scottish Govt Approve Hydro-Electric Scheme

The construction of a new £800m hydro-electric scheme has been approved by the Scottish Government.

The plan will see a 600MW plant at Coire Glas near Spean Bridge in Lochaber and will see the construction of a dam, reservoir, underground power station and water tunnels in the hills above Loch Lochy.

The site would be Scotland's largest pumped storage scheme, but opponents of the proposal say that it would negatively impact on tourism.
