MP Calls For Resignation Of Head Teacher Over Pupils Death

A call has been made for the resignation of the head teacher and chair of governors of a public school, over the handling of the death of a pupil in 2011.

13-year-old William Avery-Wright died after being hit by a 4x4 outside Worth School, West Sussex.

It is understood that head teacher Gino Carminati announced the death to parents before William's father had been informed.

Charles Hendry, Conservative MP for Wealden, called for Mr Carminati's resignation, saying that the school has breached its health and safety policy by failing to ensure an adult supervised pupils as they crossed Paddockhurst Road.

The MP also criticised West Sussex County Council for not dropping the road's speed limit from 60mph to 40mph until after William's death, despite receiving letters on the issue.

Mr Hendry made his comments during a House of Commons debate on dangerous driving.
