Queen To Make State Visit For The Anniversary Of D-Day Landings

The Queen has been invited to visit France by President Francois Hollande to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landings, according to Buckingham Palace.

The royal trip will happen on a three-day state visit, which will be from 5 to 7 June. The Queen will be accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh.

Buckingham Palace has said that Her Majesty and His Royal Highness are expected to arrive in France and spend the following day in Normandy for the anniversary of the D-Day landings: "On 6 June the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will attend events in Normandy to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landings.

"On 6 and 7 June Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will attend state visit events in Paris and be received at the Elysee Palace by President Hollande."

The last state visit of the Queen to France was in 2004.

Terror Alerts On Eve Of Queen's Irish Visit
Republican terrorists have kept the police guessing as a bomb threat - apparently by Irish dissidents - was made in London. This was the first such 'coded warning' outside Northern Ireland in 10 years, officials said. Whitehall officials said the call with the coded warning came from a number in the Irish Republic on Sunday evening.

Queen To Visit Republic
It has emerged the Queen of the United Kingdom may visit the Republic of Ireland for the first time since the beginning of her reign. After a meeting between the Prime Minister David Cameron in London and Taoiseach Brian Cowen, plans have surfaced that the Queen's first state visit to Ireland may come before the end of next year.
