Cable Warns Of Risks At Cyber Security Summit

Business secretary Vince Cable has raised concerns about the vulnerability of Britain's main services to cyber-attack.

Speaking at a meeting with regulators and intelligence leaders, Mr Cable said there was a growing threat of disruption to “everyday life”, especially for banks, gas distribution, rail signalling and mobile networks.

He added that the systems depended on “having efficient non-disruptive cyber systems operating and the are becoming more sophisticated”.

He said that the meeting “marks the next step in highlighting the important rode of the regulators in overseeing the adoption of robust cyber security measures by the companies that supply these crucial services”.

More than 200 representatives form the major banks, financial regulators attended to the event.

MPs Urge Spy Agencies To Wage Cyber Warfare
In the interests of national security, MPs have urged the UK’s spy agencies and military to wage cyber warfare. Saying that defending against cyber attacks is no longer enough, the Intelligence and Security Committee is recommending covert operations to disrupt the computer networks of those targeting the UK.
