Wolverhampton Increase Number Of Needed Job Cuts

Wolverhampton City Council has increased the number of jobs it needs to cut from 1,400 to around 2,000, saying that government cuts are "worse than previously thought".

The council say the jobs cuts are part of effort to save £123 million over the next five years.

Council tax is also to be raised by 2% by the Labour-run council.

The council had previously calculated that it would need to save £98 by 2019 but has now revised this figure up to around £123m.

It is understood that the majority of the job cuts are expected to be made within the next two years.
