RAF Carry Out Controlled Explosion At Engine Factory

An RAF explosive ordnance team has carried out a controlled explosion at an engine factory in Cambridgeshire.

Staff at the Peterborough headquarters of Perkins, which makes off-highway diesel and gas engines, were evacuated at about 01:30 on Wednesday morning after chemicals where found to be "unstable".

A controlled explosion was carried out at 08:00 on a small quantity of Picric acid, which is classed as an explosive and formally called trinitrophenol.

Road closures in the area have now been lifted.

Clutha Helicopter Crash: AAIB Find Double Engine Failure
Investigators have found that the helicopter that crashed on to the Clutha pub in Glasgow in November had suffered double engine failure as a result of a fuel supply problem. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) however said that the exact cause of the problem was still unclear.

Controlled Explosion Carried Out In Merseyside
A controlled explosion was carried out on a suspect package in Blyth, Northumberland on Tuesday. Police were called to reports of a suspect package near Cowpen Road at about 18:30 on Tuesday, 14 July. After establishing a cordon, police called an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team and a controlled explosion was carried out.

Possible Artillery Shells Prompts Evacuation
An evacuation has taken place after two possible artillery mortar shells were found in a garden in Stratford-upon-Avon. A member the public reported the discovery at approximately 8.35am today 1 July. The Banbury Road between Trinity Way and Dale Avenue, along with parts of Saturn Way and Mercury Drive were evacuated.
