Man Arrested After 14-Hour Stand-Off With Police

A man has been arrested following a 14-hour stand-off with police in Dumfries.

The stand-off began on Monday night in Syrne Road in the Lochside area, with armed police, plain-clothes officers, an ambulance and trained negotiators involved.

The area surrounding the house sealed as a precaution, police say.

It is not yet clear why the incident began.

It is understood that a 55-year-old man was arrested over the incident at about 10:30 on Tuesday morning.

Armed Standoff Ends In Arrest
An armed standoff in the village of Cynwyd, North Wales, has ended with the arrest of a man. North West Police called armed officers and negotiators to the village at 21:45 on Wednesday after a man aged in his 20s had barricaded himself in a house and threatened police with a firearm.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

Five-Hour Stand-Off Ends Peacefully
A five-hour stand-off has ended with the arrest of a 43-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder. Armed police were called to a flat in Alexandra Road in Blackpool at about 15:20 following reports that a man had a weapon. Police have said that the stand-off ended when the man left the flat voluntarily.

Man Shoots Himself In Police Stand-Off
According to police, a suspected gunman, who is believed to have shot himself in a Luton park is alive. Officers entered into a 16-hour stand-off with the man since he was discovered with a firearm at 8.30pm on Sunday night. Police have been negotiating with the man in Leagrave Common.
