Man Convicted Of Neglecting Puppy
A man from Edinburgh has been convicted of puppy neglect.
The man, 36-year-old Alistair Stuart, had neglected his puppy who was suffering from brain damage.
Mr Stuart had been pleaded guilty to failing to provide necessary veterinary attention for his five-month-old Yorkshire terrier puppy named Angel following an investigation by the Scottish SPCA.
He was found to have broken the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.
The puppy had to be put down by a vet.
At the city's sheriff court on Thursday (27 February), the accused was banned from keeping dogs for four years and fined £1,000.
Commenting on the case, Inspector June Chalcroft said: "We were contacted after Angel was taken to a vets suffering from a prolonged and sustained seizure.
"She was in an extremely bad way and had clinical signs of brain damage and, sadly, the vet had no option but to put her to sleep as she would not have recovered.
"The vet concluded that Angel had endured suffering as a result of Stuart's failure to provide earlier veterinary attention."
She continued: "During questioning, Stuart admitted being aware that Angel was extremely unwell and that he should have taken her to a vets sooner and we are very disappointed the court has not issued a life ban on keeping all animals.
"In our opinion, this is the only way to prevent any other animals suffering under Stuart's care."

M&S To Sell Branded Goods
Marks and Spencer has announced that it is to begin selling branded goods in its stores across the UK for the first time. The decision means that customers will now be able to choose from 400 household brands, such as Kelloggs, Marmite, Heinz, Coca-Cola, Fairy, Pantene and Persil, which will be sold alongside M&S' own-brand products.

Police Continue To For Stolen Bulldog Puppy
Police have appealed for information on the whereabouts of a rare bulldog puppy, believed to be worth around £16,000. The bulldog was snatched from its breeders home. It is understood a man had come to the home in October interested in buying the puppy. However, the man ran off with the dog, which was eight weeks old at the time.

Former Stereophonics Drummer Found Dead
Ex Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable has been found dead at his home in south Wales. Emergency services were called to the 40-year-old's house at Llwydcoed near Aberdare, Cynon Valley, at around 5am this morning. South Wales Police said the cause of death has not yet been established, although there are no suspicious circumstances at this stage.

A man who scooped £2m of lottery winnings aged 17 has been found dead at his Scottish home. Police have now launched an investigation into Stuart Donnelly's death. His body was discovered in Castle Douglas, in Dumfries and Galloway yesterday. The 29-year-old came to prominence in 1997 after sharing a £25m lottery jackpot.
