Royal Mail To Increase Stamp Prices

The cost of stamps is to increase from 31 March, Royal Mail has announced.

From the end of next month, a first-class stamp will increase by 2p to 62p, while second-class stamps will increase by 3p to 53p.

In addition, a large letter first-class stamp (up to 100g), will rise by 3p to 93p, and a large letter second-class stamp will increase by 4p to 73p.

The increase comes two years after the cost of a first-class stamp surged from 46p to 60p.

Defending the increase, Royal Mail said that under the current regulatory framework, it could have increased the cost of its second-class stamps by as much as 7p.

In a statement, Royal Mail's Stephen Agar added: "We understand that nobody like to pay more, especially in the current economic climate.

"Our prices remain amongst the best value for money in Europe, and we have the highest service specification of any major European country."
