Morrisons Suffers Staff Payroll Data Theft

Supermarket chain Morrisons suffered an illegal theft of personal data from it staff including names, addresses and bank account details which were published on the Internet.

The information has since been taken off the website however a data disk was also sent to a regional newspaper with the stolen details.

In a statement Morrisons said: "Initial investigations suggest that this theft was not the result of an external penetration of our systems. We can confirm there has been no loss of customer data and no colleague will be left financially disadvantaged."

The supermarket chain said it called in police and cyber crime experts.

A criminal inquiry is being led by West Yorkshire Police.

15-Year-Old Arrested Over TalkTalk Data Theft
A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with an alleged data theft from the TalkTalk website. The Metropolitan Police Cyber Crime Unit made the arrested on Monday at an address in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, assisted by the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

Met Confirm Cyber Breach Investigation
The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that its Cyber Crime Unit is investigating allegations of data theft from a telecommunications website. It is understood that banking details of thousands of Talk Talk customers have been comprised in a cyber attack. The theft was reported to the Met on Wednesday, 21 October.

Third Man Arrested In Data Theft Investigation
Police investigating an alleged data theft from communications company TalkTalk have arrested a man in south Staffordshire. The Metropolitan Police Cyber Crime Unit (MPCCU) and the National Crime Agency (NCA) executed a search warrant on Saturday, 31 October.

18% Rise In Retail Crime
Retail crime increased by 18% in 2013/14, costing the sector £603m, according to the latest report from the British Retail Consortium (BRC). According to to the report shoplifting, cyber-crime and fraud are now at a ten year high, with an estimated 3m offences perpetrated against the retail industry in the time period.

Customers warned over TKMaxx credit card scam
Credit card details of millions of customers of US retailer TJX have been stolen by hackers, it has been revealed. Information from around 45.7 million payment cards used by customers of TJX - which owns TJMaxx and UK outlet TKMaxx - were accessed during a period of seventeen months, affecting transactions as far back as December 2002.
