Members Of Armed Forces Recognised By Military Honours

British soldier Simon Moloney, 23, of the Blues and Royals is one of the 117 members of the armed forces awarded for bravery.

His recognition was the second highest military award for bravery in Afghanistan, where after was seriously injured by a gunshot wound. He continued to provide protection for his partners for 90 minutes in more than 40 degree heat.

He was part of a troop who landed by helicopter in an insurgent stronghold in an operation to gather intelligence and disrupt enemy actions.

He was shot though his neck but the bullet missed vital arteries and voice box by millimetres.

Despite that he shouted through his throat injury and over the crackle of enemy sniper rounds he passed vital target information to win the firefight before being extracted by helicopter against his will.

Lance Corporal Sinead Dodds from the Royal Army Medical Corps, has been also awarded with the Queen's Commendation for Bravery despite his 21-year-old.
