Lightening Sparks Leads Travel Disruption

Series of blazes caused by lightening strikes have sparked series of fires in the South East and leading to major travel disruption with hundreds of Eurostar trains delayed.

Four trains were stopped on the line after a fire started near the UK entrance to the Channel Tunnel on Thursday evening, one train was forces to come back to London and another three arrived at St Pancras after major delays.

Nobody was injured to the blaze and there was no damage to the rail track.

Some customers were offered taxis and hotels where necessary, according to a Eurostar source.

Southeaster train services were also disrupted due to lightning strikes, although that full services is expected to resume on Friday morning.

Ladbrooke Grove train crash case to go ahead
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has begun its prosecution of Thames Trains Limited for alleged breaches of health and safety law in connection with the Ladbroke Grove rail collision. HSE made public its intention to prosecute both Thames Trains Limited and Railtrack PLC (now Network Rail) in March 2002.

Major Tyre Blaze Halts Lanarkshire Trains
Heavy smoke and burning debris from a major fire involving 400 tonnes of tyres has caused disruption on the Scottish rail network. The fire, at a yard near Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, started at about 8pm on Sunday, and has damaged overhead rail lines.

New Channel Tunnel rail link opened
The Prime Minister has opened the first section of the new Channel Tunnel Rail Link at London's Waterloo Station today. The new section will allow trains to run at up to 186 miles per hour, reducing journey times from London to Paris to nearly two and a half hours.
