MoD Names Five Service Personnel Killed In Helicopter Crash
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed the names of the five service personnel who lost their lives following the crash of a Lynx helicopter in southern Afghanistan on 26 April 2014.
They are: Captain Thomas Clarke Army Air Corps; Flight Lieutenant Rakesh Chauhan Royal Air Force; Warrant Officer Class 2 Spencer Faulkner Army Air Corps; Corporal James Walters Army Air Corps and Lance Corporal Oliver Thomas Intelligence Corps.
Group Captain Richard Maddison, Station Commander RAF Odiham said: "I am extremely saddened to hear of the loss of Captain Thomas Clarke, Flight Lieutenant Rakesh Chauhan, Warrant Officer Spencer Faulkner and Corporal James Walters, all who served at Royal Air Force Odiham.
"My deepest sympathies are with their families and friends at this most difficult time, and also with the family of Lance Corporal Oliver Thomas, who was not from Royal Air Force Odiham but who was also on the Lynx aircraft.
"It was only a week before the accident that I visited their unit in Afghanistan, and flew in a Lynx with Captain Clarke, Warrant Officer Faulkner and Corporal Walters. It was an absolute pleasure to fly with them and to discuss their work; it was also incredibly reassuring to meet such professional and enthusiastic members of their Unit.
"While on the ground at their base I also spent time with Flight Lieutenant Chauhan, who was the same consummate professional that so many of us at RAF Odiham had come to know. As with all losses of personnel in Afghanistan, we mourn the loss of our most capable and dedicated personnel, who served without complaint and in full understanding of the risks associated with their roles. They were fine ambassadors for their Unit and for Defence as a whole, and we shall not forget them."

Local Air Traffic Control Applauded
The successfully-run British Isles-wide system of airspace control was this week held up as an example of best practice in dealing with air navigation. Ireland's Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey has called on Europe to look at how the UK and Ireland cooperate in air navigation, after the disruption caused by the volcanic ash plume.

Probe continues into two US soldiers at Guantanamo Bay
The US Defense Department is continuing its investigations into two servicemen associated with the confinement facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Both cases involve personnel assigned to Camp Delta on US Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, where the US is detaining suspected al-Qaeda and Taliban members.

British soldier dies in Basrah clashes
A British soldier has been killed and a second injured during clashes with militants in the southern Iraqi city of Basrah last night. The MoD has named the dead soldier as 29-year-old Lance Corporal Paul David Trevor Thomas, of the 2nd Battalion The Light Infantry.

The family of Mr Bancroft said: "We will always remember Jordan loving a challenge, in particular outdoor pursuits.

L/Cpl Brady, 37, from Barrow-in-Furness, was a Royal Army Medical Corps Regular Reservist, attached to the 1st Battalion the Light Infantry. He was serving in Iraq as a reservist after he left the regular Army in 2004.
