Simon Andrews Dies After North West 200 Crash

English biker Simon Andrews died on Monday after suffering fatal injuries in an accident in the fourth lap of the North West 200 in Portrush on Saturday.

The 31-year-old, from Evesham, Worcesterchire, was treated at the accident scene and airlifted to the Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital where he was placed in intensive care.

Mr Andrews was riding for the Penz13.com BMW team and no other bikers were involved in the accident which occurred when he approached a corner.

His father, Stuart Andrews, said: "Road racing was in his blood and Simon preferred the roads to short circuits. He was fully aware of the dangers involved but he loved the challenge that that offered."

North West 200 event director Mervyn Whyte affirmed: "This is a very sad day and I want to offer my condolences to Simon's family and friends and to his race team."

Man Jailed For Life In 'Head-Severing' Case
A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his landlord. Former abattoir worker Karl Bestford stabbed and mutilated Simon Meech, 46, after inviting him round to his rented flat in Gateshead on 28 July. Bestford denied murder but was found guilty by a jury, at Newcastle Crown Court.

Remains Found In Search For Murdered Wife
Human remains have been discovered by officers searching for Kate Prout, who was murdered by her husband in 2007. Gloucestershire police said on Thursday evening that Adrian Prout took police to Redhill Farm at Redmarley, in Gloucestershire at the end of last week to show them where he had buried his wife's body.
