UKIP Secures Significant Gains
UKIP leader Nigel Farage has said his party will be "serious players" at the 2015 general election, following today's elections results.
Mr Farage, whose party secured its greatest gains in Essex, said: "The UKIP fox is in the Westminster hen house."
However, despite huge gains for the party, it does not yet control any local authorities.
Mr Farage said: "There are areas of the country where we have now got an imprint in local government. Under the first-past-the-post system we are serious players."
Labour is also making gains, with Tories and Lib Dems both losing councillors.
When questioned about the possibility of a possible Conservative/UKIP alliance, Prime Minister David Cameron said: "We are the Conservative Party. We don't do pacts and deals. We'll be fighting all out for a win at the next election."
He contined: "People want us to deliver. The economy is growing, we are creating jobs, but we have got to work harder and we have got to really deliver on issues that are frustrating people and frustrating me, like welfare reform and immigration and making sure people really benefit from this recovery."
Labour leader Ed Miliband also commented on the results: "I think what we heard last night was a deep sense of discontent with the way the country's run and a deep desire for change.”

Mr Farage was to cut a ribbon on the party's new headquarters, however police advised him to stay in the office. He has been accused of "rubber-necking" at victims of child abuse following a damning report.

UKIP Lay Out Tax Pledges At Party Conference
UKIP have pledged to cut income tax from 40p to 35p for people earning up to £55,000, while also raising the amount people can earn before they pay the tax to £13,500. The Party is set to lay out its tax plans at its annual conference, which begins this morning at Doncaster Racecourse.

The government should cut taxes in an effort to stimulate economic growth, former Defence Secretary Liam Fox has said. Fox used an interview in the Time newspaper to call for capital gains tax to be suspended for three years. He also added that employment laws should be reformed, making it easier to hire and fire employees.

Prince Charles has come under fire from MPs who want the National Audit Office to inspect the accounts for the Duchy of Cornwall. Tory MP, and Chairman of the Commons Publics Accounts Committee, Edward Leigh, has written to the Treasury, inquiring why the organisation was exempt from corporation and capital gains tax.

Godfrey Bloom has announced that he is quitting the UKIP European group to see out the remainder of his term as an independent. Bloom lost the party whip last week following controversy over a joke that referred to female UKIP activists as "sluts".
