Canterbury Cathedral Gets £11.9m Lotto Boost
Lottery funding of £11.9m is to go towards the conservation of Canterbury Cathedral.
Work on the Grade-I listed building will include the restoring of the Christ Church Gate and weatherproofing and stabilising the Nave and West Towers.
Despite £11.9m of funding for the restoration, including £930,400 of a development grant, the cathedral has to raise the rest of the money to meet the required target of £19.4m.
Some £72m has been earmarked by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for six museums and attractions across England.
Reverend Dr Robert Willis, the Dean of Canterbury, said: "Now we have two years to crystallise our plans - and to raise the £7.4m of matched funding that is required."
HLF trustee Angela Dean said the cathedral, which was founded in AD 597, was "an extraordinary part of our collective heritage," and added: "Regardless of faith, its magnificent structure cannot fail to impress."

CoE Most Senior Female Bishop To Be Consecrated
The Church of England's most senior female bishop is to be consecrated at Canterbury Cathedral. The Reverend Rachel Treweek, 52, is to become the new Bishop of Gloucester. Archdeacon Treweek is succeeding The Right Reverend Michael Perham, who retired in 2014. She will be the first woman to run a diocese and will be one rank below archbishop.

Monitor Launches Investigation Into Trust's £12.6m Deficit
Health sector regulator Monitor has opened an investigation at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals over its financial deficit of £12.6 million. The organisation is concerned that the trust may record a large loss for 2015/16 rather than the £2.2m surplus it had previously predicted.

Alpha Park will be sold by Hampshire constabulary as it cannot afford to develop the site, the Guardian has reported. The site in Eastleigh was bought for £9.6m in 2008 and the force has since spent £1.
