David Cameron Backs Water Cannon
Prime Minister David Cameron has backed the use of water cannon in Britain following the approval of London Mayor Boris Johnson for the Metropolitan Police to buy three water cannon for £218,000.
The water cannon cannot be used, however, without the authorisation of Home Secretary Theresa May.
A Number 10 spokesman said David Cameron believed the police should have the resources they need and that he supported the decision in principle.
Number 10 also said that a process of licensing and regulation need to be completed and "a final decision will be taken by the home secretary."
Mr Johnson said: "I think it's highly likely approval will be granted and the problem was if we waited we would have missed the window to buy them for the very good price that we've got."

During a Commons question on privacy orders, John Hemming named Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs as the man at the centre of the gagging order.

The Prime Minister has described the current situation surrounding privacy rulings as "unsustainable" and unfair on the press. Speaking to ITV1's Daybreak, David Cameron said the law should be reviewed to "catch up with how people consume media today".

Second Day Of Tube Strike Continues
Millions of commuters who use the London Underground face a second day of disruption because of strike action. The strike is over planned job cuts and ticket office closures. The disruption is due to end at 9pm, with tube services returning to normal. A limited Tube service is in place after the first of two 48-hour strikes began on Tuesday night.
