Boy Dies After Ballycastle Cliff Fall

A seven-year-old boy has died after falling from a cliff-face on the Antrim Coast.

The boy, from Ballycastle in County Antrim, was reported missing on Sunday evening.

He had been seen playing with other children near cliffs close to the Silvercliff Caravan Park.

A search and rescue operation was undertaken involving two RNLI lifeboats, a police helicopter and a helicopter from RAF Prestwick.

The Belfast Coastguard said the boy was found at the base of a set of cliffs and was then airlifted to the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine.

He later died as a result of his injuries, police said.

SDLP Ballycastle Councillor Donal Cunningham said: "This is absolutely heartbreaking news and my heart goes out to the little boy's family and friends. It is a terrible tragedy, and I know the entire area will be deeply saddened at the devastating news of such an untimely death of a young child."
