Land Rover To Create 250 Jobs In Merseyside

The £200 million investment, which will mean 250 new jobs at Jaguar Land Rover at the Halewood plant on Merseyside is 'an important stepping stone to creating more such highly skilled jobs', Unite sid.

Unite national officer for the automotive industries Roger Maddison welcomed the creation of the new jobs as good news for the North West and "a great boost for UK car manufacturing".

He said: "Unite members have shown that they have the skills and commitment to make Land Rover the world leader that it is.

"These new jobs are an important stepping stone to the creation of more such highly skilled jobs.

"The UK car industry has gone through a renaissance in the last decade and is once again at the forefront of British manufacturing, producing high quality vehicles, many of which are exported abroad."

UK To Build Electric 'Leaf' Car
Nissan's plans to produce its electric Leaf car in Sunderland have been welcomed by the Government. The car manufacturer has been awarded over £20m in grants from the Government to build the new plant. Nissan said the proposals represent an overall £420m investment in UK operations.

Tata Steel Cut 900 Jobs Nationwide
900 jobs are to be axed by Tata Steel across the UK, almost 600 of which will be at plants in Wales. It is understood most of the Welsh losses will be management and administrative posts in Port Talbot and Llanwern near Newport. 155 jobs in Yorkshire will go, alongside 120 in the West Midlands and 30 on Teesside.
