Asos Resumes Trading Following Blaze

Asos, the online fashion giant, has started trading again after a fire broke out at its main warehouse on Friday night.

The blaze started at the warehouse in Barnsley at around 10pm on Friday.

The company was forced to suspend trading as a result of the fire.

Asos said around 20% of its stock had been compromised by fire damage and the sprinkler systems. It added that around 70% of its total stock, worth £159m, was held at the site.

More than 60 firefighters tackled the blaze and about 500 people were evacuated from the five-storey building. Following initial investigations, West Yorkshire Police have said they are treating the fire as arson.

In a statement, Asos said "none of the technology, automation or structure of the building has been affected by the fire", and that it is "fully insured for loss of stock and business interruption."
