Strike Affects UK Flights For A Second Day

UK flights are continuing to face disruption or cancellation due to a strike by air traffic controllers in France.

The industrial action, which started yesterday, is due to last for another four days. Controllers are on strike in opposition to budget cuts.

Easyjet confirmed it had to cancel around 20% of its flights into and out of France on Wednesday, with more to come, while Ryanair cancelled 88 of its flights to and from the UK, with 240 flights cancelled overall within Europe.

There are reports that the disruption could intensify as possible industrial action could be taken by Belgian air traffic controllers. If this happens, this would cause significant problems as many of the flights which cannot currently fly over France, are being re-routed over Belgium.

Unions are in discussions with management in a dispute over cuts and staffing issues. If no agreement is reached, strike action could begin on Wednesday. It is not clear how long the strike would be for.
