More Than One Million Expected To Strike Today

A series of strikes are taking place across the UK in a number of disputes with the government over pay, pensions and cuts.

More than a million public sector workers, including firefighters, librarians and council staff, are expected to take part in strike action today.

The Cabinet Office however has claimed that "most workers" are at work, according to reports.

Some of those taking part in strikes today include:

• Unison – in a dispute over this years pay offer

• The National Union of Teachers (NUT)

• Unite – who described a pay offer as "insulting"

• Firefighters – in a dispute over pensions and retirement age

And a number of others.
