High Court Orders New Inquest Into Deepcut Deaths

The High Court has ordered a new inquest into the death of 18-year-old soldier Pte Cheryl James, who died at Deepcut barracks in Surrey in November 1995.

Ms James, who died of a single bullet wound, was one of four deaths at the barracks between 1995 and 2002, leading to allegations of bullying and abuse.

The original inquest, which was held shortly after Ms James' death, recorded an open verdict.

According to reports the High Court found an "insufficiency of inquiry" when it quashed the previous open verdict and order a new inquest.
