Man Charged After Stealing Money From Pensioner

A man has been charged after £30 was stolen from a disabled pensioner while she was using a cash machine.

Adam Lawler of Cravenwood Road, Reddish, Stockport, has been charged with theft from a meter / automatic machine and is due before Stockport Magistrates' Court on 31 July 2014.

The theft happened at about 2pm on 18 July 2014 on London Road, Hazel Grove, Stockport.

The 67-year-old woman, who is partially disabled and walks with an aid, was withdrawing all that was left from her bank account when the cash was swiped from under her nose before she could put it in her purse.

Police Question Man After Woman's Body Is Found In Burnt Out Car

Detectives have been given more time to question a man who was arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman was found in a burnt out car in Erdington on Tuesday.

Police were called to Fentham Road at around 8.30pm following a 999 call from a member of the public reporting a parked car on fire.

A short while later a 34-year-old man was arrested in the area. He remains in police custody after officers were given a further 24 hours by magistrates this morning to continue to hold him for questioning.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be established and a post mortem is due to take place this afternoon.

RIBA Elect New President

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has elected a new President.

Jane Duncan will begin the new post on 1 September and will take over from Steven Hodder.

Jane Duncan will be the 75th RIBA President.

Jane is director of Jane Duncan Architects, an award winning practice of 16 architects and interior designers based in Buckinghamshire. Established in 1992, Jane Duncan Architects undertakes a mixture of high-end residential, sports, leisure, commercial and community projects. These vary from sustainable contemporary to traditional and listed buildings.

She said: "I am delighted to be elected and to have the mandate from RIBA members to undertake my election pledges on improving pride, fees and diversity within the architecture profession. Over the next year I will be working hard to support Stephen Hodder and visiting and talking to members and staff across the UK."

Man Charged Over Fatal Shooting In Liverpool
A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Garston, Liverpool on Tuesday night. Police were called to reports of a road accident between a car and a scrambler bike on Banks Road in Garston at about 20:45 last night. However, when police arrived at the scene they found an 18-year-old man with serious gunshot wounds.

Police Dig Up Pub Patio In Search For Missing Landlady
Police investigating the disappearance of a landlady in Cambridgeshire in 1997 are digging up the patio of her former pub. Deborah Steel, 37, was landlady of the Royal Standard in Ely, Cambridgeshire, when she disappeared on 28 December 1997. Police have said that Ms Steel's disappearance is now being treated as a murder investigation.

Second Man Arrested After Man Is Seriously Injured In Wolverhampton
Police investigating a disturbance outside a Wolverhampton pub that saw a car veer into a crowd of people, leaving one man seriously hurt, have arrested a second man. Officers were called to reports of a disorder outside The Rookery Tavern in Wood Street at 7.30pm Sunday 4th May.
