Eastbourne Pier Could Reopen By Christmas

Eastbourne Pier could reopen by Christmas, the pier's general manager has said.

Part of the 144-year-old, Grade II-listed, structure was badly damaged in a fire on 30 July.

Operators of the pier have said that if structural engineers give the go-ahead, work will begin on restoring the destroyed parts of the pier, which could be reopened again by Christmas.

GCC Criticised For Palestinian Flag Move

Glasgow City Council's plan to raise a Palestinian flag over the city chambers has been described as the "worst kind of gesture politics".

Lord Provost Sadie Docherty has said that the raising of the flag was to show solidarity with those affected by the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

However, the move has been criticised by the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, which said it had been "angered and hurt" by the proposal.

President of the group, Paul Morron, said: "Flying the flag... does nothing to alleviate the suffering on either side of the conflict, nor does it bring peace closer by one single minute."

March 2015 For Richard III Reburial

Leicester Cathedral has set 26 March 2015 as the reburial date for the remains of Richard III.

The original grave had been discovered under a Leicester council car park in 2012, after being lost for many years.

To mark the reburial, a week-long series of events will see the king's coffin travel from Bosworth, where he died in battle, to the city where he was first buried.
