RAF Drop Aid In Northern Iraq On Second Attempt
The RAF has successfully dropped a second round of aid supplies into northern Iraq after abandoning an attempt over safety fears.
The RAF had attempted to make the drop on Monday but the pilot aborted the mission at the last minute as a large crowd had gathered at the drop site. It was feared that dropping the cargo would injure people on the ground.
The Department of International Development has confirmed that two consignments of aid were successfully dropped over Mount Sinjar during a second attempt.
The aid is being supplied to assist people affected by a fleeing ongoing conflict against Iraq's religious minorities.

It is understood that a drop on Saturday was successful but a second drop, planned for a mountain in the north of Iraq, was abandoned at the last minute over fears that the cargo would injure those on the ground.

Some 300 mutual aid officers from UK police forces are to be sent to Belfast following a fifth night of rioting in the city. Trouble began on last Friday after an Orange Order parade was stopped from returning along part of the Crumlin Road in north Belfast.
