Man Arrested After Attempting To Abduct A Child

A man has been arrested in connection with the attempted abduction of a child in Wigan.

The incident happened between 2pm and 3.30pm on Monday 1 September, on Holmes House Avenue in Winstanley where it was reported a man had attempted to abduct an eight-year-old girl.

The girl was riding on her scooter with her friend who was just ahead, she passed the electrical substation when the man came out from behind the substation and grabbed her ponytail and put his hand over her mouth.

He then let go of her ponytail and grabbed hold of her arm, the girl used her elbow to hit him in the stomach and screamed to her friend who ran back and threatened to phone the police. The offender then ran back into the wooded area.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempt child abduction and remains in police custody for questioning.

Teen Charged Over Firearms Discovery

A 17-year-old male has been charged following the discovery of firearms and ammunition at a property in Aigburth on Wednesday, 3rd September.

The teenager, who is from Aigburth, has been charged with two counts of possession of a section 5 firearm; and one count of possession of section one ammuntion.

He is due to appear before Liverpool Youth Court today.

Police Appeal For Witnesses Following Fatal Road Crash

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision during the early hours of this morning in the Yeovil area.

The incident happened at about 12.06am on the A3088 at Alvington Bridge.

Two cars were involved in a head-on collision and then burst into flames.

The driver of one of the vehicles was rescued and went to Yeovil District Hospital before being transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. He is thought to have arm and stomach injuries, not believed to be life threatening or life changing.

The man in the other vehicle was declared dead at the scene.

Man Charged With Attempting To Murder Police Officers
A man has been charged with attempting to murder two police officers. James Leslie, 37, of Cardigan Road, Leeds, is accused of shooting a female officer earlier this week. Around 4am on Wednesday (4 December), two officers were called to a disturbance in Cardigan Road when they were confronted by a man at a property.

Missing Schoolgirl Found On Isle of Wight
Hampshire Police have reported that a missing 15-year-old schoolgirl has been found "safe and well". The teenager from Southhampton was last seen on Saturday on the Isle of Wight. She is said to have been in the company of a man. A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of child abduction, police have said.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

Man charged over 'supermarket abduction'
Police have charged a 48-year-old man with child neglect following the reported abduction of a four-year-old girl in Swansea last week. A nationwide hunt was launched for the child, following reports from shoppers at a Sainsbury's supermarket that a young girl had been seen apparently being put into the boot of a car.
