Vote Counting Properly Conducted And Scrutinised

The counting of votes in the Scottish referendum was "properly conducted and scrutinised", the chief counting officer has said.

It follows accusations of vote rigging, with an online petition calling for "a revote counted by impartial international parties" receiving more than 70,000 signatures.

The petition states: "Countless evidences of fraud during the recent Scottish Referendum have come to light, including two counts of votes being moved in bulk into a 'No' pile, 'Yes' votes clearly being seen in 'No' piles and strange occurrences with dual fire alarms and clear cut fraud in Glasgow.

"We demand a revote be taken of said referendum, where each vote shall be counted by two individuals, one of whom should be an international impartial party without a stake in the vote."

BBC Apologises For Airing TOTP2 Featuring Jimmy Savile

The BBC has apologised after showing a 1971 edition of Top of the Pops in which Jimmy Savile appeared.

The programme was shown on BBC2 on 13 September and featured a scene where the disgraced DJ is seen wagging a finger at a female audience member.

The broadcaster received seven complaints.

In a statement, the BBC said it had "reviewed references to Jimmy Savile across archive footage, including a number which were brought to our attention.

"Where the material is likely to cause offence to his victims it is removed.

"Although all programmes are reviewed before broadcast, unfortunately this brief appearance was missed.

"We apologise for any distress caused."
